Summary reader response draft #4

In the article “What are solar light panels and how do they work” (2019), solar panels are introduced and explained in detail. Solar panels work by allowing photons, or particles of light, to knock electrons free from atoms, producing electricity. (Harvey,2022). When connected to the main power grid, the panels power lighting systems in the day, and excess power can be supplied to the grid if available. However, if the panels are not connected to the grid, it will require a backup system.  As major advantages, solar light panels are rugged and last a long time. The panels also do not emit toxic greenhouse gases which have adverse effects on the environment, according to the mentioned article above. Individual solar cells consist of semiconductor elements and can produce electricity by itself. The cells can be put in different configurations and can be adapted for various power outputs and sizes. Lastly, the panel system composes of “photovoltaic modules, electrical connections, mount

Critical reflection

As UCS comes to an end, I think that this module has been quite useful, equipping me with relevant skills required for the future. In my earlier self-introduction letter, I mentioned my goals for this module was to improve my presentation skills, and to be more confident in interviews. And after learning about presentation skills taught during UCS lessons, I can definitely see an improvement in my confidence and skills. For example, I learnt a lot from Monroe’s Motivated Sequence, which is a persuasive speech outline with 5 steps, namely attention, need, satisfaction, visualization, and action. I used this speech outline to prepare for the team-based oral presentation and felt that I was much more confident and natural while presenting, while also including a persuasive aspect, which is something that was not taught or required in previous presentations. I am sure the presentation skills I learnt will be very important in the future, especially in the workplace, where pitches and pre

Design summary draft 1

In the article “What are solar light panels and how do they work”, (Team ProductLine, 2019), solar panels are introduced and explained in detail. With applications in both public and private sectors, these panels consist of photovoltaic modules that convert solar energy into electrical energy. When connected to the main power grid, the panels power lighting systems in the day, and excess power can be supplied to the grid if available. However, if the panels are not connected to the grid, it will require a backup system. For features, solar light panels are rugged and lasts a long time. Self Introduction letter

Self Introduction Dear Mr Brad, I am writing today to introduce myself to you and the class and provide more information about myself. I graduated with a diploma in Aerospace Electronics from Temasek Polytechnic in 2020 and attended Anglo-Chinese School(Barker Road) in secondary school. I was attracted to mechanical engineering due to the broad yet useful spectrum of modules that can be applied to many aspects in the future. I feel that my communication strength would be my language use, as English has been my strong suit. My mother is an English teacher in a local primary school and so basic English has been ingrained in me even as a child. This has helped me through my education, allowing me to easily learn in my English subjects and modules. However, I feel that a weakness I have is a tendency to write my essays without planning beforehand, which can lead to a disjointed and confusing essay, especially for longer reports and essays. An example would be my final internship repor
According to Pearson’s Talent Lens website: “While all engineers should have good communication skills, global engineers face additional challenges, making effective communication an imperative.” Debra Kraft, Careers Content Writer, Demand Media (2016)   Communication is an essential part of our lives. Even for babies, who cry to communicate their discomfort or displeasure. A study done by Expert Market shows that: "In 2022, 28% of workers cite poor communication as the reason for not being able to deliver work on time". As engineers, without effective communication, problems will occur, leading to inaccurate or wrong results. For example, if a customer decides on a certain specification for the end product, and does not properly explain and specify his needs, the engineer may infer and assume, leading to the end result having a different result from what the customer wants. Therefore, it is only when there is effective communication amongst a team of engineers that complex i
